WonderWorks is an indoor "edu-tainment" attraction on International Drive, instantly recognizable from the road: the building appears to have been picked up and dropped upside-down, with an inverted neoclassical façade and palm trees seemingly torn from the ground (the backstory involves a fictional experiment gone awry). Inside, it flips right-side up into a multi-level playground of more than 100 hands-on, interactive exhibits that blend science, technology, and pure fun.
The exhibits are organized into themed "WonderZones," and the appeal is that almost everything is interactive. You can feel hurricane-force winds and the shake of an earthquake in simulators, lie on a bed of (real but safe) nails, make giant bubbles, play with light and illusion, lock hands in a plasma-physics demo, design and then "ride" your own virtual roller coaster, and explore space- and physics-themed zones. Add-on experiences typically include a challenging multi-level indoor ropes course (the WonderWorks Outdoor/indoor ropes course) and a glow-in-the-dark laser-tag arena, and there's often a dinner-show option (an interactive magic-comedy dinner) at the venue.
It's a hit with kids and families, genuinely educational beneath the fun, and — being entirely indoor and air-conditioned — one of the best rainy-day or hot-afternoon options in Orlando, as well as a fun evening out. It's centrally located on I-Drive near ICON Park, hotels, and dining, easy to combine with other I-Drive attractions. Plan a couple of hours, more with the ropes course, laser tag, or dinner show.
